1. Biblical Worldview
How we view truth determines how we view and interact in our world. Our everyday lives revolve around what we know as truth. At New Heights, our foundation for truth is the Bible. Our basis for faith and everyday living is the Bible. We believe it is the complete Word of the everlasting God and is without error or fault. The Bible will be our foundation for teaching, worshiping, celebrating, and living. In it, we find God’s direction for life and faith. It gives us purpose and meaning. What is truth? God’s Word is truth.
2. Prayer
God yearns for conversation with us. Nothing of eternal value is accomplished apart from prayer. Prayer is a tremendous force in this world. There are those who believe in prayer that don’t believe in a personal God. Why? We believe that prayer was planted in our hearts to connect us to the God of the Universe. We are created with a desire and passion to communicate with the one who created us. His passion is to connect with us on a very intimate level—and that requires heart-to-heart communication. This communication is prayer. As a result, we pray all the time, about everything: great and small, known and unknown, specific and general, by ourselves and in groups, because we know that this is what connects us to the very heartbeat of our God.
3. Transformational Growth
We are called by Jesus to follow him. We cannot become more like Jesus without the necessary spiritual growth. New Heights Church desires that all who call it their church home will take part in the transformational process of becoming more like Christ.
4. Incarnational Relationships
Our spiritual lives do not happen in a vacuum, void of other relationships. We are designed to have life-on-life connections with others. These connections only work when we are real with each other—sharing our whole beings. This demands that we embrace our imperfections, and those of others, and seek to bridge the flawed to get to the holy—our relationship with Christ.
5. Atmosphere of Grace
As flawed people, we need a place where we can experience the love of God. At New Heights Church, we promote an atmosphere of grace that allows people to present themselves as they are, in order to receive the Good News of the story. Only through showing grace to each other can we truly follow in the footsteps of Christ.
6. Missional Living
Many of us wander through life without direction or purpose. There are times when we strive to reach our potential only to discover it wasn’t our potential in the first place. We believe that God has given everyone of us a mission in life. This mission can be known and followed. The journey of following Jesus in our day-to-day lives is only part of that mission. There is something greater that we long to be a part of–and that cause that we will die for and live for is our mission. Keeping God at the center of our lives makes every aspect of our life sacred.
7. Team-Centered Ministry
We were never called to do the work of the Kingdom alone. Community is the essence of God as seen in the Trinity, the chosen people, and the church. At New Heights, we value teamwork. We want people to understand that this entire organization from top to bottom is based on people teaming together to accomplish the mission of Christ.
8. Servant Leadership
Leadership is an influence process. When you engage in trying to influence the thoughts and actions of others toward a goal or accomplishment, you are attempting to lead. For Jesus’ followers, His first instructions were on how they were to lead. Jesus gave a very clear mandate that those who follow Him were to lead by acts of service. For a follower of Jesus, servant leadership is not an option, it’s a command. Empowering others to lead through serving them is our heart’s vision.
9. Relevance
We live in a changing world, which needs change as well. At New Heights Church we seek to be relevant in the method in which we communicate the story of God. Though the message stays the same, there are many ways to express it. In a changing world, relevance seeks to meet the needs of those who long for a new way of hearing the story, without changing it.
10. Innovation
Reaching our world requires creativity and sensitivity to the unique calling and vision of each individual. We realize that the only constant in our culture is change. We desire to be a church that lives at the epicenter of where darkness meets light. In order to reach the mosaics, and to touch lives, we must live in a constant state of change with an unchanging message. We embrace the arts as a way of impacting the culture we are a part of.
