We like to use a single phrase to sum up what we’re about at New Heights Church – Grasping God’s Story Together.
From the beginning there has been a common thread: Humanity’s desire to rebel against their creator, and God’s passionate pursuit of redemption. Adam and Eve’s disobedience plunged humanity into a spiral that continues to this day. The tapestry that is God’s story weaves through the Old Testament, and culminates in the New Testament with the coming of Jesus, the redeemer. Jesus’ death and resurrection are the answer to the heart of rebellion that beats within all of us. The ultimate restoration of humanity brings us to the end of this story, which is the beginning of a new story, in Revelation.
To “grasp” God’s story is to embrace it — to fully entrust yourself to Christ’s saving work and to commit yourself to it. Because we are a community of believers, this is done not just as individuals but as a group as well, as the body of Christ.
When you think of it that way, then what we do as a church is our response to God’s story. We Celebrate the story through the many forms of worship. We Connect with others who are part of the story. And we live our lives so as to Contribute to the ongoing story by taking part in the work of Christ.
We grasp God’s story together.
